About Gale - Meyer Builders

Jack Gale and Peter Meyer

Peter MeyerPeter Meyer grew up in Belmont and Essex, MA., and attended the University of California, Berkeley, and Wentworth Institute in Boston.

In the mid 70’s, Pete worked in Waltham, MA, as a camera- and audio man, helping make educational video tapes, then started a construction business in the San Francisco Bay area focusing on the renovation of Victorian and arts and crafts style homes, many of which required structural upgrades to protect against earthquake forces.

Peter and his wife, Cheryl Ann Parker, moved to Essex in 1985 where he built his current home, started a new residential construction business, and occasionally worked as a finish carpenter for the Story Shipyard of Essex. After working together on an extensive renovation project in 1991, Peter and Jack Gale became partners, forming Gale-Meyer Builders.

To give back to his community, Pete became a member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay in 2009 and is now a Big Brother to a young boy who lives in Gloucester.

In 2009 Cheryl sustained a spinal cord injury that left her quadriplegic. Peter spent the next year helping her get back to her job as the principal of Veteran’s Memorial School and making their house accessible to Cheryl. This first-hand knowledge has enabled him to consult with others to help make their homes accessible and livable.

Jack GaleAs a boy growing up in Gloucester, Jack Gale began building boats in his basement, and worked as a carpenter after graduating high school. While attending the Montserrat College of Art in the early 1970’s, he moved from one living situation to another, remodeling houses and apartments in exchange for rent. For the next several years, Jack alternated construction and building jobs with commercial fishing on both coasts, honed his skills as a boat-builder for the Story Shipyard in Essex, and started building houses on Cape Ann as Gale Construction. After forming Gibroni Construction, a marine construction company, and then Kent-Gale Builders, specializing in residential construction, Jack partnered with Peter Meyer to create Gale-Meyer Builders. He has been designing and building new homes since 1980.

While keeping up a parallel career as a union stage and screen actor, Jack also co-founded Gloucester’s Blackburn Theater Company and built their theater. He still occasionally appears in film and television. Jack is the proud father of Olivia and Annie Gale.
